My sister's birthday is today. She's 18 now. She's been calling me all week to come home this weekend, which just so happens to be Labor Day weekend (*sarcastic "great" inserted here*). So not only are the police going to be out in abundance, making me live in the slow lane the whole way home, but it just adds to the already soaring gas prices. Gas prices that have risen because of that damn hurricane katrina, (that's right, she doesn't deserve to have her name capitalized!). Oh yeah, and I have no a/c in my car, the fan went totally bust (this also means that there will be no heat when winter comes unless I get this fixed . . . but that's a whole other story).
All joking aside, hurricane katrina was a pure bitch. She killed many, many people, and destroyed many homes and buildings of historical importance to the gulf area and the USA in general. I hope this doesn't make me sound whimpy, but I can no longer watch the news because I can feel the tears start to well up, and then it'll be all over-I'd be a running faucet with no off switch. It terrible what happened there, and I pray for all the families. However, I must admit that I feel very inadequate because there are all these organizations are taking up donations and such, but I still don't have any money to pay off this semester's tution and I still have to buy 3 textbooks. The best I can do is pray. And give blood, which I'm doing either this eveing or tomorrow. What I want to know is, where the hell is Bill Gates and all his millions of dollars that we ALL know he can spare?! Yeah, whatever, I know it's not as simple as that. At least Major League Bsaeball and the NFL, as well as individual teams and players, are doing their share. I'm very touched, (and I knew there was a reason I'm such a huge sports freak!). If you didn't know already, I'm a huge Carolina Panthers fan, and their QB, Jake Delhomme, and all his family-wife, kids, etc.- are from and live in New Orleans (last I heard anyway), so I know he's probably worried.
There are students here at MBC that have family and friends affected by this as well. I love that MBC has begun providing room and board for students' families that lost their homes, as well as to alumn.s' families; and, MBC is passing out the word that college students from that area are welcome to come here and continue their education. There's a great community here at MBC, and I'm glad I'm a part of it. (I'll add the article & email about that soon.)
Okay, I have to go for now.
*Reminder to self: a/c story . . .
Aim Away MSG for the day: filled up my car while the price is still just out of my budget, hopefully it's before gas becomes a luxury . . .
